Onion


International word «onion», onion got in Britain after transformation of the word «unio» or «uniounem» (from «unus» – «один»). 

Breeding of onion were engaged ancient peoples of Prsia, Mesopotamy, India, East Asia and countries of Mediterranean Sea. Motherland of onion is still not known. First genetic center is region of North-Western India, Afganistan, Uzbekistan and Western Tianshan. Old Egyptians knew it as early as the third century B.C. For this day onion has 400 kinds from them only 3 are main: yellow, white and red.

One of the wall inscriptions in pyramid of Hiops say about purchase of food for builder workers, onion with garlic are taking first place there.  In Old Egypt onion was a model of universe construction. In this country growing up of onion is taking strong position.
